MADISON, Wis. – In a fast paced battle for top spot in the NACC, Edgewood College struggled offensively down the stretch and fell 71-66 to Benedictine University. Despite holding Benedictine to just 30.5 percent shooting through the first two periods of action, shooting improved, as Benedictine finished the contest shooting 51.9 percent from the floor in the final two periods.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (13-2, 8-2 NACC) 17-15 after a fast paced opening period that featured 53.8 percent (7-of-13) shooting from the floor. Edgewood College extended their lead to three at the break (32-28).
- Benedictine University (13-2, 10-0) tied things up at 33 a piece just over two minutes into the third period. A 10-4 run from Benedictine solidified their third period lead, and gave them a three point lead (44-41) going into the final period of action.
- Halfway through the fourth period Benedictine took their largest lead of the contest, at 10 points (60-50), but Edgewood College continued to battle. In the end, Edgewood College battled back to within five points of Benedictine, but it was too little too late.
- Overall both teams saw an abundance of turnovers and steals in the contest, as both teams finished with 17 turnovers a piece. Benedictine finished with nine steals compared to 10 from Edgewood College.
- Bria Lemirande collected her third double-double of the week with an 18 points and 11 rebound performance. Abby Shane led the offense with 19 points, while Alyssa Lemirande collected ten points and nine rebounds on the afternoon.
THE OPPOSITION
- Benedictine University was led by Alex Fanning who scored a 25 points and added 14 rebounds for the double-double. Fanning also added five blocks for Benedictine. Claire Gibler also scored in double-figures, notching 21 points and adding six rebounds.

- Edgewood College will look to rebound on Wednesday, as they host Marian University. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Todd Wehr Edgedome.
