MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Women's Basketball team put together their first win of 2020, to improve to 11-1, 6-1 NACC. The Eagles 64-49 win over MSOE came behind strong scoring efforts from Abby Shane and Alyssa Lemirande.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Abby Shane was dominant on Saturday, leading the Eagles with 14 points. The junior was perfect from beyond the arc (4-of-4) and added 5 rebounds through 26 minutes of action.
- Edgewood College (11-1, 6-1 NACC) came out strong and took a quick 11-2 lead through the first six minutes of action, behind six points from Alyssa Lemirande. Edgewood College went into the second period with a six-point lead (20-14), off a first period that saw 53 percent shooting.
- The second period was much of the same for the Eagles, as 13 unanswered points and strong defense gave the Edgewood College an 18-point lead going into the locker room.
- The Eagles biggest lead came with 6:33 on the clock in the third period. A layup by Bria Lemirande and free throw from Shane gave Edgewood College a 21-point lead.
- Despite a 58.3 shooting percentage in the fourth period, Eagles held on to their lead and ended the fourth period with a 41.7 percent shooting effort.
- The Edgewood College blocking game proved to be a big difference in the contest. Six different Eagles managed at least one of the eight total blocks. Bria Lemirande notched a career-high three blocks in the victory.
- The Eagles pulled down an impressive 12 offensive rebounds in comparison to just two by the Raiders. Bria Lemirande led Edgewood College with a whopping five offensive rebounds.
- Alyssa Lemirande continued to play an important role for the Eagles, notching 13 points, six assists and five rebounds on the afternoon. Diamond Pikulyk finished in double-figures with 10 points and added three rebounds. Bria Lemirande and Emma Klein owned the Eagles rebounding game, both notching eight boards.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
- Bria Lemirande and Klein both finished with career-bests. Bria Lemirande finished with three blocks, while Klein owned eight rebounds.
THE OPPOSITION
- Amy Reiser and Wendy Guan both finished with 17 points for the Raiders. Reiser was perfect from long range, while Guan connected on 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.
- Danielle Valley led MSOE (4-9, 4-4 NACC) with nine rebounds while Reiser wasn't far behind with five of her own.
UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will head to Milwaukee, Wis. on Tuesday to take on Alverno College. The conference contest is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in Reiman Gymnasium.
