Eagles blank Illinois Tech for second-straight NACC shutout

CHICAGO – Two NACC matches. Two NACC shutouts. The Edgewood College Men's Soccer team blanked Illinois Tech, 2-0, Saturday to win its second-straight NACC match via shutout, this one coming at Stuart Field in Chicago.

- The Eagles scored once in each half, the first goal coming via a penalty kick from Sean Surtees in the 18th minute. The goal was the fourth of the season for Surtees, who has scored in each NACC match for the Eagles thus far.

- Zander Hartberg recorded his first score of the 2019 season in the 56th minute to put the Eagles up 2-0.

- The Eagles defense did the rest, anchored by Brendon Martin who made four saves in recording his second-straight shutout. Edgewood College was outshot, 16-12, on Saturday, although the Eagles did hold a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.

- Hartberg led the Eagles with three shots, all three on goal.  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles posted shutouts in back-to-back matches for the first time since October 4 and 7, 2017. Edgewood College shutout Lakeland and Concordia Chicago in NACC wins in those two contests in 2017.

- The Eagles are 2-0-0 to start NACC play for the first time since the 2014 season. Edgewood College opened NACC play with wins over Concordia Chicago and Marian in 2014.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will take a break from NACC play with a trip to Viterbo University in La Crosse Monday. The match is set to start at 3 p.m. at Viterbo Outdoor Athletic Complex.
