MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Men's Soccer team took advantage of offensive opportunities on Tuesday night, leading to a 3-1 victory over Ripon College. Brian Root and Even Oppermann led the charge for the Eagles, as Root scored twice, assisted by Oppermann both times.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (2-3-1) got on the board in the 38th minute. After a close range shot from Lemkuil, Oppermann perfectly converted the save, tapping the ball to Root, who found the back of the net for the second time this season.
- Ripon College (0-6) responded just four minutes into the second-half as Christian Millian tied things up with an unassisted goal.
- Just over 10 minutes later, the Eagles took advantage of a costly yellow card issued to the Red Hawks in the box. Sean Surtees gave Edgewood College a 2-1 lead, confidently netting the penalty kick in the top right corner of the goal.
- Edgewood College wasn't quite satisfied, scoring once more in the 70th minute. Once again, Oppermann found Root in the box, giving Root his third goal of the season, and solidifying the Eagles 3-1 victory.
- While the Eagles only owned possession for 49 percent of the time, compared to the Red Hawks 51 percent, the Red Hawks were outshot 26 to 16 by the Eagles. Root took a career-best six shots, four on goal. Surtees finished the contest with five shots and William Lemkuil wasnt far behind with a career-best four shots. Brandyn Storhoff made three saves for the Eagles.
