WAVERLY, Iowa. – The Edgewood College Women's Tennis team continues to win. The Eagles ran their record to 18-4 on the season with two more non-conference wins Saturday, defeating Grand View University, 8-1, before taking down Wartburg College, 6-3.
EAGLES 8, GRAND VIEW 1
- The Eagles did not lose a doubles match Saturday and it started with a 3-0 record against Grand View.
Sydney Verbauwhede and
Alyssa Carew posted an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while
Kai Heineman and
Alicia Picard rolled, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles.
- The finals double victory was a win by default for
Marissa Wilson and
Jaclyn Swift at No. 3 doubles.
- Edgewood College would continue to roll in singles play, winning five of six matches. The most dominant of those was
Lydia Dean who cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 No. 5 singles win. Swift picked up a win by default at No. 6 singles for the Eagles.
- Heineman won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, while Picard posted a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Wilson was dominant in her No. 5 singles match, netting a 6-0, 6-1 win.
EAGLES 6, WARTBURG 3
- Edgewood College ran its winning streak to four with the 6-3 victory over Wartburg. The Eagles again swept doubles play, led by an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles from Verbauwhede and Carew.
- Heineman and Picard need a tiebreaking set as they won 8-7 (7-3) for the No. 2 doubles victory, while Wilson and Swift completed the 3-0 start with an 8-6 victory.
- In single play it was Heineman (No. 3), Picard (No. 4), and Swift (No. 6) who helped the Eagles complete the 6-3 win. Heineman posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles and Picard won 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-1) in her No. 4 match. Swift netted a 6-3, 6-3, No. 6 singles win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles 18 wins are tied for the second most in a single season in program history. The 2013-14 team holds the record with 19 wins, while the 2012-13 and 2014-15 teams also won 18 matches.

- Edgewood College will play twice next Sunday. The Eagles will take on Coe College at noon before battling North Central (Ill.) at 3 p.m., both matches in Naperville, Illinois.
