Eagles top Kohawks, clipped by Cardinals

HANOVER PARK, Ill. - The Edgewood College Women's Tennis team garnered their 19th win of the season on Saturday afternoon against Coe College. The 6-3 victory tied the school record for most wins in a season. In addition, a clutch 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles for freshman Kai Heineman tied the school record for most singles wins in a season, with 22. The Eagles four match winning streak would come to an end in the nightcap, as they were edged out by North Central College 6-3.

EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 6, COE COLLEGE 3
- Edgewood College (19-5) opened the day with a strong effort against the Kohawks. It started with a 2-1 finish in doubles play where the Eagles two wins came at the No. 2 and No. 3 slots.

- The No. 2 duo of Kai Heineman and Alicia Picard won 8-4 with the No. 3 pairing of Marissa Wilson and Jaclyn Swift posting an 8-2 victory.

- In singles play the Eagles would add victories in four-of-six matches to complete the 6-3 victory. It started at No. 3 singles with Heineman only dropping two points for a 6-1, 6-1 win. Heineman's win marked her 22nd win of the season, tying the school record for most singles wins in a season.

- In the No. 4 singles slot, Picard needed a third-set tiebreak for her exciting win. Picard dropped the opening set 4-6 before winning set two 6-2. She won the tiebreaker 10-7 to complete her win.

- Wilson rolled 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Lydia Dean impressed in the No. 6 singles spot, winning 6-1, 6-0.

NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE 6, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 3
- The Eagles started ahead against the Cardinals, taking two of three in doubles play. Sydney Verbauwhede and Alyssa Carew picked up a big tiebreaker victory 8-7(5) in the No. 1 doubles slot. Wilson and Swift picked up the second doubles win for the Eagles with an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles. The senior duo of Wilson and Swift finished the day 2-0 in their doubles matches.

- North Central (16-6) battled back in singles play, taking five-of-six from the Eagles. Swift finished off a perfect day by winning 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The last team to notch a 19 win season goes all the way back to 2013-14 when the Eagles were NACC Champions, NACC Tournament Champions, and made an appearance in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

- Heineman's 22 singles wins ties the record set by Shae Beckwith back in 2010-11.

- Edgewood College will head to Lake Forest College on Saturday, April 20. Non-conference action is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. in Lake Forest, Ill.
