Hot hitting Eagles set school records, sweep Lakers

VERONA, Wis. - The Eagles completed their first sweep of the season over Silver Lake College, breaking four school records in the process. The Edgewood College softball team scored nine runs in the first inning and never looked back, taking the first contest 24-1 while setting the school record for hits in a game and runs scored in a game. The Eagles continued their hot hitting in game two, scoring eight in the first inning and coming away with the 23-0 victory.  

EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 24, SILVER LAKE COLLEGE 1 (GAME ONE)
- Jenna Dunbar started the first inning nine-run onslaught with a triple to center field. In the next at-bat, Laurissa Belott scored Dunbar with a single to right field.

- The Eagles quickly lit up the scoreboard, as Sabrina Maicke scored Belott with a triple to right field and Grace Delleman blasted her first home run of the day to right field. Edgewood College (6-10) tacked on five more runs before the inning would end, coming on four separate run-scoring singles.

- The hot bats of the Eagles continued into the second inning as singles from Maddy Coppens and Dunbar plated two more.

- Silver Lake College (0-12) got a run back in the top of the third inning. Nikki Aldecoa plated the Lakers sole run of the day from third base with a single up the middle.

- The Eagles were determined to break the school record for most runs scored in a game and did so with a nine run fourth inning. Hanna Fisher sent her first homerun as an Eagle over the right field fence, scoring two in the process. The inning was topped off by two massive home runs off the bat of Delleman, good for the school record in home runs per game (3).

- Maddy Coppens collected the win, pitching three innings and striking out five.

- Freshman Dunbar led the way for the Eagles, finishing with five hits and four RBI, both career bests. Delleman finished with three hits, all home runs, and a career-best six RBI.

EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 23, SILVER LAKE COLLEGE 0 (GAME TWO)
- Game two was much of the same as the Edgewood College bats rolled out eight runs in the first inning off five singles and a sacrifice fly.

- Wasting no time, the Eagles tacked on seven more runs in the second inning. Edgewood College continued to rack up singles, six singles and one miscue from the Lakers gave the Eagles a 15-0 lead heading into the third inning.

- The Edgewood College bats could not be stopped, putting up nine run fourth inning to top of the victory. The Eagles added seven more singles in the inning and extended their lead to 23.

- Emily Boomfield came away with the shutout victory, pitching four innings and striking out five.

- Overall, seven Eagles finished with career-bests. Dunbar (4 runs), Jacklyn Mozdzen (2 hits), Hailey Kammerer (4 hits, 3 RBI, 2 runs), Andi Salm (3 hits, 2 RBI, 2 runs), Mackenzie Hoffman (3 RBI, 2 hits, 2 runs), Millie Benson (2 RBI, 2 Runs) and Emily Bloomfield (2 hits, 2 runs).  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Between the two contests Edgewood College broke four school records and tied for first in one.

- Three of the records were previously held by the 2011 Eagles squad, who broke all three on April 9, 2011 against Maranatha Baptist. The Eagles first victory of the doubleheader broke the record for most runs scored (24), most RBI (24) and most hits (28).

- Delleman broke the record for most home runs in a game with three in the first game.

- Dunbar tied the school record for most runs scored in a game (4).
UP NEXT
- The Eagles will head to Lakeland University on Saturday to continue NACC play. The doubleheader is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. in Plymouth Wis.
