Benedictine sweeps Edgewood College in battle of Eagles

VERONA, Wis. – In a NACC doubleheader battle between the two Eagles in the league, it was visiting Benedictine who won a pair of games over the Edgewood College Baseball team Monday night at Stampfl Field. The opener went 6-1 in way of Benedictine before a 13-1 nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College struggled to score Monday, plating just one run in each game. In the opening game it was Joseph Kalafut who came around to score in the seventh inning, making the score 4-1 at the time. Benedictine would add two runs in the top of the eight for the 6-1 final.

- Mason Maziarka pitched deep into the ball game, throwing 7.2 innings and allowing six runs. He finished with three strikeouts before handing the ball off to Connor Schatzberg in the eighth inning. Schatzberg struck out two batters for his four outs and allowed just one hit.

- Alex Prindle paced Edgewood College with two hits in the opener. Jimmy McClaughlin led Benedictine with three hits, including a two-RBI double in the third. Ryan Litavecz tossed seven innings for Benedictine, allowing just one run.

- The nightcap was a rough one for Edgewood College, resulting in five errors committed and a 13-1 setback. Many of the errors came early as Benedictine scored four times over its first two at bats, three of those runs unearned.

- Bryan Sternig paced Edgewood College at the dish in game two, picking up a pair of hits. The lone run of the game was via an RBI single by Casey Willis in the fourth, plating Kyle Semrad.
