CAROL STREAM, Ill. – A late Aurora rally in game one, followed by a shutout in game two resulted in a two setbacks for the Edgewood College Baseball team in a NACC doubleheader Sunday evening. The Eagles fell, 7-6, in the opener before dropping the second contest, 7-0.
AURORA 7, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 6 (GAME ONE)
- The Eagles (10-24, 5-13 NACC) 6-2 through six innings in the opener before Aurora scored five unanswered. The Spartans struck for two in the bottom of the seventh before taking the lead with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
- Edgewood College built a 4-0 lead through four innings and got things rolling right away in the first. With two outs in the opening frame,
Kyle Semrad drove in
Alex Prindle and
Ryan Fields with a two-RBI single.
Bryan Sternig drove in runs in the second and fourth innings, making the score 4-0.
- Aurora scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Eagles lead to 4-2 at the time, but Edgewood College responded right away in the top of the sixth. It was freshmen
Joseph Kalafut who provided the big hit in the frame, a two-RBI triple, plating
Adam Cairo and Prindle.

Jake Sawinski turned in a strong effort on the mound for the Eagles, tossing seven innings and allowing just three earned runs.
Eric Nelson ended up as the pitcher of record for Edgewood College with
Connor Schatzberg throwing in the game as well.
- Seth Gutknecth picked up the win for Aurora, delivering 4.1 innings in relief with two runs allowed, one earned.
AURORA 7, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 0 (GAME TWO)
- The story of game two was the second inning and the Aurora pitching. The Spartans scored six times in the second to take an early lead and three pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout. Kyle Blunt started the game and threw seven scoreless frames for the Spartans, surrendering just two hits with two strikeouts.

Dane Lamont, and Cairo each recorded hits for Edgewood College in the nightcap.

Matthew Turner took the loss for the Eagles, working 5.1 innings on the mound.
Richie Coughlin threw 2.2 scoreless for the Eagles to finish the contest.
