ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Edgewood College Softball team dropped a pair of NACC contests Tuesday evening against Dominican University. DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY 8, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 2
- Dominican University (21-17, 10-10 NACC) took advantage of two singles, a stolen base, and a pair of fielder's choice at-bats to get ahead of the Eagles 2-0 in the first inning. The Stars would pile on three more runs in the second inning, off two doubles and four singles.
- Edgewood College (8-22, 2-16 NACC) would plate one run in the top of the fourth on a double by Sabrina Luedtke. The senior's strong hit down the right field line plated Sabrina Maicke, who led off the inning with a single through the left side of the Stars infield.
- The Eagles once again cut into the Stars lead with a RBI single off the bat of Luedtke, scoring Jenna Dunbar from third in the top of the sixth inning. Dominican was able to halt the Eagles bats and add three more runs in the bottom of the frame. The Stars offense took advantage of miscues from the Eagles defense, scoring three on just two hits.
- Despite the game one loss, the Eagles managed 10 hits in the contest. Luedtke led the offensive effort with two hits and two RBI, while every Edgewood College batter managed a hit in the contest.
- Maddy Coppens saw her record fall to 6-16 with the game one setback. She managed five strikeouts through seven innings pitched. Allyson Dilday earned the win for the Stars, going 4.1 innings, and only allowing three hits.
DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY 7, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 1
- The Edgewood College bats slowed in the nightcap, as the Eagles struggled to figure out the Stars pitcher Cat Klostermann who went the distance and struck out six.
- Once again, Dominican got on top in the first inning, scoring one run on a RBI groundout. The Stars would add one run in the second inning and three more runs in the fourth inning. Just as it looked like the Stars bats couldn't be stopped, the Eagles managed to end the fourth inning with a quick double play from Dunbar and Salm.
