Beloit pulls away from Eagles in non-conference affair

VERONA, Wis. – Beloit College scored 13 runs over its final three at-bats to pull away from the Edgewood College Baseball team Tuesday evening. The score was 4-3 before the seventh, but the visiting Buccaneers got rolling late for a 17-3 final.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles (8-22) scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Beloit lead to 4-3. Bryan Sternig got Edgewood College on the board with an RBI single, plating Casey Willis. An RBI groundout by Alex Prindle, followed by an RBI fielder's choice from Ryan Fields made the score 4-3.

- Beloit responded with a six-run seventh inning and would add four runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth. The 5-6 spots in the order for the Buccaneers did the most damage in the combination of James Wicker and Bronson Balholm. Each scored three times, while Wicker had two hits and three RBI, while Balholm had three hits and two RBI.

- Max Orput finished the game with two hits to pace the Eagles offense.

- The Eagles went with the Johnny Wholestaff plan of attack Tuesday as they were playing their fifth game since Saturday and have six games coming up this weekend. Edgewood College used nine different pitchers with Richie Coughlin taking the loss. He worked the first two innings and gave up a pair of unearned runs with three strikeouts.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will host Maranatha Baptist on Friday for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. at Stampfl Field.
