VERONA, Wis. - Despite scoring in the seventh inning of both contests against Marian University, the Edgewood College Softball team dropped a pair of NACC games on Monday. The Eagles weren't able to adjust to the Sabres pitching staff quickly enough, falling 3-2 in a close opener and 7-1 in the second contest of the day.
MARIAN UNIVERSITY 3, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 2
- In the rare Monday morning contest, Edgewood College (8-20, 2-14 NACC) made things interesting in the bottom the seventh inning. The Eagles refused to settle for the shutout loss, loading the bases off two base-on-balls and an infield single.
-The first run for Edgewood College came with two outs, when Sabrina Maicke reached on catcher's inference and Sabrina Luedtke scored from third. Another run came across the plate for the Eagles one batter later, as a hard-hit ball from Grace Delleman scored Mackenzie Hoffman from third. Ultimately, the Sabres pitcher Paige Rauhut ended the Eagles roll.
- Marian University (21-11, 13-5 NACC) scored their first run of the game in the third inning before adding two in the fifth for the 3-2 final.
- The Eagles finished with six hits, two from Hanna Fisher and Jenna Johnson. Fisher and Jenna Dunbar both laced doubles to right field in the contest.
- From the rubber, Maddy Coppens finished with three strikeouts through seven innings of work, while Rauhut struck out five for the Sabres.
MARIAN UNIVERSITY 7, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 1
- The Eagles trailed 7-0 after the Sabres scored three in the second inning, two in the third inning, and two more in the fourth inning. Edgewood College got on the board in the seventh inning when Coppens singled to center field, scoring Dunbar who reached on her second double of the day.
- Emily Bloomfield and Laurissa Belott combined for a total of eight strikeouts, four a-piece. On many occasions, the Eagles pitching came through to end innings and force the Sabres to leave runners stranded on the base paths.

- The Eagles have a quick turnaround, as they head to Dominican University on Tuesday. The NACC doubleheader is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. in Rosemont, Ill.
