FRANKLIN, Wis. – The Edgewood College Baseball team scored 10 runs in a game one win and ultimately settled for a split in a NACC doubleheader at MSOE Monday. The Eagles won the opener, 10-6, before falling 4-2 in game two.
EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 10, MSOE 6
- The Eagles (8-21, 5-11 NACC) wasted little time in getting going on Monday as they plated three runs in the top of the first.
Joseph Kalafut, who paced the team with a 4-for-5 effort, drove in two of those runs with an RBI single. Kalafut would then come around to score the first of his three runs on an RBI single by
Dane Lamont.
- Lamont was at it again in the third inning, once again singling in Kalafut to make the score 4-0 in favor of Edgewood College. MSOE would cut the lead in half with two runs in the bottom of the fourth but the Eagles responded with a two-RBI single by
Kyle Semrad in the top of the fifth, making it 6-2 Edgewood College.
- Things got interesting in the bottom of the seventh as the Eagles, who led 7-2 entering the frame, gave up four runs to make the score 7-6. As they did earlier, the Eagles responded, this time with a three-run eighth inning.
Ryan Fields roped an RBI double to make the score 8-6 and Kalafut provided more insurance with another two-run single, plating Fields and
Bryan Sternig.
- Kalafut was outstanding for the Eagles with four hits, four RBI, and three runs scored. Lamont and Semrad each drove in two runs, while Fields scored three times. The Eagles finished the game with 17 hits led by Kalafut's four.
Max Orput and Fields each tallied three hits with Field doubling twice and Orput adding one double.
Alex Prindle, Lamont, and
Ryan Gale all added two hits.

Jake Sawinski picked up the win for the Eagles, throwing seven innings and giving up six runs. He walked two and struck out one before
Connor Schatzberg came on for the final six outs of the game. Schatzberg allowed just one hit and struck out a pair in helping Edgewood College secure the win.
MSOE 4, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 2
- The Eagles carried the momentum over to the early stages of game two with a two-run first inning.
Max Orput had the big hit of the frame, an RBI triple plating Sternig. Orput would then score on an RBI groundout off the bat of Fields.
- MSOE would tie the game in the fourth with two runs and took its first lead of the day with a run in the fifth. The Raiders added an insurance run in the seventh inning for the 4-2 final.
- Riley Winkel settled in nicely for the Raiders after the Eagles two-run first and worked six strong for the win. Mason Lebreck recorded the final nine outs for the Raiders, earning the save in the process where he allowed just one hit and struck out five.
- Fields got the start for Edgewood College, turning in a quality start by going 6.1 innings and allowing three earned runs (four total). He struck out six compared to just one walk.
Will Mossa pitched 1.1 scoreless innings for the Eagles, giving up one hit.
