MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Edgewood College Softball team snapped an eight-game skid on Saturday with their first conference sweep of the season at Alverno College. The Eagles managed the 6-5 come from behind victory in game one and continued to roll in game two with a 5-0 shutout win to secure the sweep. Grace Delleman led the offensive attack for the Eagles with a 4-for-4 showing in game two that featured a home run and 2 RBI. On the rubber, Maddy Coppens went the distance in both contests, striking out seven Alverno College batters.
EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 6, ALVERNO COLLEGE 5
- With their backs up against a wall, the Edgewood College Softball team (8-18, 2-12 NACC) put faith in their offense and pulled out the come from behind victory in game one of the NACC doubleheader.
- After giving up two runs to Alverno College (9-22, 0-16 NACC) in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Eagles were determined to win. Laurissa Belott led things off with a single through the right side of the Inferno infield. The sophomore showed off her speed on the base paths, advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt from Hanna Fisher and tying things up at 5 a-piece on a ground out to the shortstop one batter later.
- The Eagles winning run came with two outs and a runner on second base. Second baseman Jenna Johnson drove the ball down the left field line, scoring Delleman from second base, and giving the Eagles a 6-5 lead.
- In the contest, the Eagles struck in the first inning, as Belott came across home plate on a fielder's choice from Johnson.
- The Inferno took the lead back in the third inning, scoring two on a single through the right side of the Eagles defense and one on a sacrifice fly to left center field.
- In the sixth inning the Eagles regained the lead for the second time as Delleman would plate one runner with a double to left field, while Maddy Coppens crushed a double to left field scoring two Eagles.
- Belott and Fisher both finished the contest with two hits a-piece, while Johnson and Coppens both came away with 2 RBI.
- Coppens went the distance for the Eagles, picking up four strikeouts through seven innings pitched.
EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 5, ALVERNO COLLEGE 0
- In the nightcap, the first three innings proved to be a defensive battle as neither team was able to plate a runner. Back to back singles from Delleman and Johnson in the top of the fourth proved to be the spark the Eagles needed, as a two RBI single to center field from Sabrina Luedtke gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
- The Eagles continued to pile on the runs in the fifth inning. Hanna Fisher got things going with a double to right center field that scored one runner. Just two batters later, Delleman would blast her fourth home run of the season, scoring two and giving the Eagles a comfortable 5-0 lead.
- Confident defense and solid pitching from Coppens would keep the Inferno from scoring in the contest. Coppens was quite effective on the mound, notching her sixth win of the season, only allowing three hits, and striking out three in seven innings of work.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Senior Delleman now sits in a tie for third place in the Edgewood College record books with 17 home runs in her career. Interestingly enough, Delleman is tied with assistant coach Colleen Joyce who recorded 17 long balls between 2007 and 2010.

- Edgewood College will take Sunday off before returning home on Monday to face off against Marian University. The NACC doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. at Ceniti Park in Verona, Wis.
