VERONA, Wis. - Consistent hitting from the Edgewood College Baseball team on Saturday afternoon led to a 5-4 nightcap victory against Rockford University. The Eagles were forced to settle for a split, after dropping a close game one 4-3. The Eagles bats put up 11 hits and scored runners in four of nine frames in the game two victory.
EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 5, ROCKFORD UNIVERSITY 4 (GAME TWO)
- Rockford University (8-17, 2-10 NACC) got on the board first in the nightcap, scoring on a wild pitch strikeout in the first inning. Edgewood College (7-20, 4-10 NACC) quickly responded, as Max Orput distracted the Regent defense on the base paths, allowing Brian Sternig to score from third base after reaching on a double to center field to start off the inning for the Eagles.
- Neither team scored through the second and third frames of the contest. The Eagles struggled to get past first base, as the Regents pitcher Joseph Kmiec picked off two Edgewood College runners in the third inning.
- In the fourth inning, Ryan Fields would increase the Eagles lead to 2-1, scoring on a sacrifice fly off the bat of the designated hitter Dane Lamont.
- The Eagles bats continued to show consistency, as three singles and a sacrifice bunt in the fifth inning scored two more runs. Orput's second hit of the day would come in the form of a two RBI single to right field, making the score 4-1.
- The Eagles would score once more in the sixth inning, as Kyle Semrad would score from third base on a Regent miscue after leading off the inning with a single to right field.
- In the top of the eighth the Regents narrowed the Eagles lead to just one when shortstop Hunter Fiorito sent a two-run home run over the left field fence. The Eagles seemed unphased, quickly recording the final two outs of the inning.
- The Eagles starter Matthew Turner worked through eight innings only giving up nine hits and striking out four. Turner was quite efficient at times for the Eagles, forcing ground outs and working through the hard-hitting Rockford batters. In picking up his second win of the season, Turner threw 111 pitches and faced 33 batters.
- Edgewood College finished the game with 11 hits, as Sternig, Orput, Ryan Gale, and Cairo each recorded two hits. Sternig finishing with two doubles in the contest.
ROCKFORD UNIVERSITY 4, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 3 (GAME ONE)
- Rockford took advantage of timely hitting in four of nine frames to score each of their four runs in the split with Edgewood College. The Eagles scored one run in the fourth and two in the eighth, but the Regents added runs in the sixth and ninth for the 4-3 victory.
- Alex Prindle and Joseph Kalafut were hot at the dish for the Eagles in game one, picking up two hits a-piece. The Eagles outhit Rockford 7-6 in the loss.
- Will Mossa put in four innings of work for the Eagles, striking out three. Mason Maziarka got the start and worked through three innings, striking out three of his own. Erik Nelson faced two batters in the eighth inning, while Connor Schatzberg threw one frame for the Eagles.
- For the Regents, Zachary Jones went the distance, picking up 13 strikeouts over 138 pitches.

- The Eagles will head to Franklin, Wis. to take on MSOE on Monday, April 22. The NACC doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
