CHICAGO, Ill. – The Edgewood College Baseball team scored seven times in the top of the ninth, helping them take the opening game of a NACC doubleheader against Illinois Tech Tuesday. The Eagles won the opener, 12-5, before dropping game two, 13-10. The nightcap was called after eight innings due to darkness.
EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 12, ILLINOIS TECH 5
- The Eagles and Scarlet Hawks were tied, 5-5, before the seven-run ninth propelled Edgewood College to a game one victory. The go-ahead run, scored by
Ryan Fields, came on a bases loaded walk to
Casey Willis. Edgewood College would add six more insurance runs after that, posting the seven-run victory.
- Fields had a big game for the Eagles, going 3-for-5 at the plate with 3 runs scored in addition the being the winning pitcher. He worked the last two innings on the mound, giving up one run and striking out four.
- The Eagles trailed 2-0 before getting on the board in the fourth inning on an RBI single by
Paul Cappetta. Edgewood College tied the game, 2-2, on a Willis sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth and took its first lead when Cappetta cleared the bases with a three-RBI double in the fifth inning.
- Illinois Tech got back in the game in large part due to Nick Bledsoe, who launched solo home runs in the fifth and seventh innings, making the score 5-4 in favor of Edgewood College. The Scarlet Hawks would tie the game in the bottom of the eighth and had runners at second and third with just one out. A big strike out from Fields followed by a line out allowed Edgewood College to head to the ninth tied at five.
- Cappetta finished the game with four RBI to lead the Eagles offense, while
Joseph Kalafut scored twice in addition to three runs scored by Fields. Kalafut and Cappetta each roped doubles in the game one win.

Jake Sawinski worked seven innings for the Eagles on the mound but did not factor into the decision. He allowed four runs over the seven frames.
ILLINOIS TECH 13, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 10
- Game two was also tied in the late goings but it was Illinois Tech who had the big frame, a six-run seventh, to provide the difference. Shaky defense proved costly for the Eagles as their five errors led to eight unearned runs from the Scarlet Hawks.
- Illinois Tech built a 7-1 lead after three innings of play, thanks to a five-run first followed by runs in both the second and third innings. Edgewood College got back in it with a five-run fourth with Fields delivering a two-RBI single in the frame.
- The Eagles tied the game at 7-7 when Willis scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth. Willis started the inning with a single and stole second before advancing to third on a groundout.
- The big hit for Illinois Tech came after they already went up 10-7 in the seventh. Zachary Dickey launched a 3-run home run to put the Scarlet Hawks up six, those insurance runs proving big as the Eagles scored three times in the top of the eighth.

Adam Cairo had three hits for the Eagles in game two, while
Alex Prindle, Willis, Fields, and Kalafut all added two.
Max Orput delivered a two-RBI single in the eighth as well.

Branden Cohn took the loss, working 6.1 innings. Alex Riehman got the win for Illinois Tech by pitching the final three innings.
