MEQUON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Baseball team dropped a pair of NACC games Tuesday in a league doubleheader at Concordia Wisconsin. The Eagles had a tough time solving the Falcons staff, falling 5-0 in the opener and 4-1 in the nightcap despite receiving quality starts from
Jake Sawinski and
Ryan Fields.
CUW 5, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 0
- Sawinski turned in his second-straight great start for the Eagles, this time throwing 7.2 innings and giving up just two earned runs. The senior right-hander had given up just one run before the eighth when the Falcons plated four more, three of those unearned.
- Unfortunately for Sawinski and the Eagles, Concordia Wisconsin pitcher Lukas Meerdink was just a bit better on Tuesday. Meerdink threw 8.1 scoreless innings before handing the ball off to Beau Wills for the game's final two outs. Meerdink struck out 12 in the win.
- The Falcons finished the game with five hits, two each from
Bryan Sternig and
Adam Cairo. Cairo had a double for one of his two hits.
- CUW scored its first run of the game in the fourth inning before adding four in the eighth for the 5-0 final.
CUW 4, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 1
- Fields pitched well in the nightcap, throwing seven innings where he allowed six hits, three runs, and struck out five.
Will Mossa pitched the eighth inning for the Eagles.
- The Eagles trailed 2-0 after Concordia Wisconsin scored in the first and fifth frames. Edgewood College got on the board in the sixth when Fields helped his own cause with an RBI triple, plating Sternig.
- Concordia Wisconsin would add runs in the seventh and eighth innings for the 4-1 final. Bradlee Sumner threw six strong for the Falcons, allowing just one run, while Wills pitched 2.2 innings for the save.
UP NEXT
- The Eagles will return home for a NACC doubleheader Saturday at Stampfl Field. Edgewood College is set to host Rockford for two conference games, beginning at noon.
