VERONA, Wis. - The Edgewood College Softball team was unable to avoid key mistakes as the Aurora University bats came up big in both losses on Sunday afternoon. Edgewood College dropped the first game of the twin bill 11-0 and the second 13-0. Innings with six or more runs for the Spartans in each game proved to be the difference in the sweep.
AURORA UNIVERSITY 11, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 0 (GAME ONE)
- Edgewood College (4-10, 0-4 NACC) was unable to solve Steph Renner as the Aurora University (9-7, 2-2 NACC) starter went the distance. Renner gave up just two hits and struck out one in the effort.
- The Spartans scored in three of five frames, opening the game up with an eight run first inning that featured four hits, three singles and one double. The eight-run start wasn't without help from the Eagles, as three miscues kept the scoring alive for Aurora.
- Sophomore Laurissa Belott collected two hits for the Eagles, a hard-hit ball past the shortstop in the first inning and line drive past the third baseman in the fourth inning.
AURORA UNIVERSITY 13, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 0 (GAME TWO)
- Game two was much of the same as the Spartans tacked on runs in four of five innings, and put the exclamation mark on with a six-run third inning effort. Aurora University jumped out on top in the first inning once again as Megan Schwartz sent a ball over the right field fence, good for a three-run homerun.
- The Eagles biggest action of the afternoon came in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Cassidy Nelson managed a pinch-hit base on balls. In the next at-bat, freshman Andi Salm drove the ball just past the third baseman to put Nelson in scoring position. The Eagles only threat of the day was quickly extinguished by the relief pitching of Brittney Spiesz.
- Jenna Johnson recorded the second hit of the contest for the Edgewood College, with a hard-hit ball back up the middle in the second inning.
