Benedictine's hot hitting too much for Eagles

VERONA, Wis. - The Edgewood College Softball team was unable to win the offensive battle on Saturday afternoon, dropping two in their 2019 NACC and home opener. Despite a strong day at the plate from senior Sabrina Maicke, The Eagles (4-8, 0-2 NACC) suffered a pair of losses, 7-4 and 12-3. Benedictine completed the sweep with a total of 10 hits per game.

BENEDICTINE UNIVERSITY 7, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 4 (GAME ONE)
- Edgewood College had their best offensive inning in the third inning as they tied the score up at three a piece off three hits and two runs. Maicke came through with a clutch double down the right field line, scoring Jenna Dunbar from second.

- Maicke led the Eagles offensively, finshing the contest with three hits, two runs, and an RBI.

- Maddy Coppens threw seven strong innings for the Eagles, striking out four Benedictine players, but taking the loss despite completing three scoreless innings from the rubber.

- Benedictine University saw two hits from four different players pay off, as they scored three in the third inning, one in the fifth inning, and tacked on three more in the sixth for the 7-4 final.

- The Eagles battled things out at the plate as well, as Cassidy Nelson, Hanna Fisher, Grace Delleman, and Dunbar all came away with a hit in the contest.

BENEDICTINE UNIVERSITY 12, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 3 (GAME TWO)
- The Eagles got off to a quick start in the second contest of the afternoon. Maicke blasted a two-run homerun over the left field fence, scoring Dunbar from second and getting the Eagles out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning.

- Benedictine University quickly answered back in the top of the second inning, scoring six runs off five hits. Emily Moore did the most damage for Benedictine, with a triple to right center that brought two across the plate.

- Benedictine continued to pile on the runs, scoring in three of five innings and adding four in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning. Overall, Benedictine finished with 10 hits and 10 RBI.

- Coppens threw two innings of relief for the Eagles, allowing just two hits and one earned run.

- Megan Fast pitched five strong innings for Benedictine, giving up only five hits and striking out two.


UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will look to bounce back quickly, as they take on Aurora University on Sunday, March 31. Doubleheader action begins at 12:00 p.m. at Ceniti Park.
