Wabash takes two from Eagles Sunday

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Edgewood College Baseball team fell in a pair of games against Wabash College Sunday afternoon. In game two, Wabash won via a walk-off single, resulting in a 3-2 final, while the opener saw the Little Giants take down the Eagles, 12-4.

WABASH 3, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 2 (GAME TWO)
- The Eagles fell in game two despite a brilliant effort from freshman Matthew Turner on the mound. The rookie right-hander went 6.1 innings and allowed three runs, two earned. He gave up just five hits, while striking out two and issuing a pair of walks.

- The Eagles trailed 1-0 until the fifth inning when Bryan Sternig, who tallied two hits in game two, scored on a failed pickoff attempt by Wabash. Edgewood College would go down again in the bottom of the fifth, but answered once again with a run in the top of the sixth. Ryan Gale scored the tying run in the sixth inning.

- Max Orput added a pair of hits as the Eagles tallied six in the game, the same number as the Little Giants. Andrew Jumonville delivered the game-winning hit for Wabash in the bottom of the seventh.

- Tyler Dearing threw five solid innings for Wabash but it was Zach Moffett who got the win in relief. Dearing struck out seven over his five frames.

WABASH 12, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 4 (GAME ONE)
- The Eagles scored a run in each of their first two at-bats and Wabash struck for two in the bottom of the first in the opener, making it 2-2 after two complete. Dane Lamont, who delivered two hits for Edgewood College, had an RBI single in the first, while Sternig tallied a sacrifice fly in the second.

- Wabash would tally four runs in the bottom of the third before Edgewood College scored a pair in the top of the fourth to cut the Little Giants lead to 6-4. Adam Cairo, who finished the opener with two hits, recorded a run-scoring single in the two-run fourth. Wabash would break the game open with a five-run sixth inning.

- The Little Giants tallied 15 hits compared to seven for the Eagles in game one. Six different Wabash players finished the contest with two hits.

- Will Mossa took the loss for the Eagles, working five innings. Sean Smith got the win for Wabash, allowing four runs over four innings.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles are scheduled for their first conference and home doubleheader next Saturday against Concordia University Chicago. First pitch from Stampfl Field in set for noon.
