Eagles drop high-scoring affair in series opener at Wabash

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Edgewood College Baseball team produced 10 runs and 19 hits in Saturday's series-opening game at Wabash College. Unfortunately for the Eagles, Wabash countered with 17 runs in a high-scoring affair Saturday afternoon for a 17-10 final.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Walks continue to hurt the Eagles (2-7) and that theme continued Saturday as they issued 14 walks and three hit batsmen. Wabash ended up with just 11 hits compared to the Eagles 19, but had timely ones early on in building a 6-0 lead after two innings and a 9-2 advantage after three.

- The Eagles got on the board in the top of the third inning when Joseph Kalafut, who finished the game 5-for-5 with 4 RBI, drove in two with a single. Kalafut would add an RBI single in the seventh and an RBI double in a six-run eighth inning for Edgewood College.

- In addition to Kalafut, the Eagles received strong showings at the plate from Bryan Sternig and Ryan Fields. Sternig reached base five times from the leadoff spot, going 2-for-3 with three walks, a double, and two runs scored. Fields added three hits, while Casey Willis and Max Orput chipped in with two.

- Wabash (8-7) also got a strong performance from its leadoff hitter as Eric Chavez was 3-for-6 with two runs scored and two RBI. Matthew Annee drove in four runs for Wabash.

- The Little Giants received seven strong innings from Kase Lawson, who picked up the win. He allowed three runs over his seven innings on the mound. Ezra Smith took the loss for Edgewood College, working two innings.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles and Little Giants will play two more tomorrow, beginning at 12 eastern. The first game will be seven innings and the second contest will be nine, unless the opener goes to extras.
