Eagles edged by Blugolds, dominate Green Knights

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Edgewood College Women's Tennis team came up just short in a tough regional matchup against UW-Eau Claire, 5-4, but rebounded with a convincing 8-1 victory over St. Norbert College in the second match of the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College got out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play, getting two 8-4 wins at the No. 2 position from Alicia Picard and Kai Heineman, and No. 3 position from Marissa Wilson and Jaclyn Swift.
- However, the Eagles found their backs against the wall, trailing with losses at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 singles. In the No. 4 singles slot freshman Kai Heineman managed an important win, defeating Hanna Zevenbergen 7-6(7-3), 7-5.
- UW-Eau Claire clinched the match with a win at No. 5 singles, but Lydia Dean earned a tiebreaking victory at No. 6 singles (1-6, 7-6(7-5), 10-8) to close the final margin to a single point.
- In the nightcap, the Eagles came back with a vengeance, taking down St. Norbert College 8-1.
- The Eagles won all three doubles matches by the combined score of 24-4, while surrendering just one singles match to the Green Knights.
- St. Norbert's Lauren Paulson slipped past Sydney Verbauwhede at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2, for the Green Knights only win.
- Heineman remained undefeated on the day, finishing up 4-0 with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 victory in the No. 3 singles slot.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will travel to Hilton Head, S.C. for four non-conference matchups between Monday, March 18 and Wednesday, March 20. The Eagles will play Stevenson University, Messiah College, The College of Wooster, and Allegheny College during their spring break trip.
