TUCSON, Ariz. - It was mixed results for the Edgewood College Softball on Monday getting off to a 1-1 start at the Tucson Invitational Games. The Eagles bats came alive in an efficient 9-1 five inning victory over MacMurray College. In the afternoon matchup, the Eagles were limited to just one hit, but played well defensively to hold Gustavus Adolphus College to just one run in the loss. Edgewood College finished the day with a 4-2 record.
EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 9, MACMURRAY 1
- The Edgewood College bats got off to a quick start in the first inning against the Highlanders, scoring six runs off four hits. Jordan Anderson started the scoring with a single to right field that scored two. Jenna Dunbar followed things up with a triple down the right field line to score two more.
- Heads-up base running from Hanna Fisher and Dunbar gave the Eagles two more runs and a 6-1 lead going into the second inning.
- Edgewood College did not let up in the second inning. Maddy Coppens led off the inning with a single to left center and pinch runner Jaclyn Mozden came around to score three at-bats later on a wild pitch. Dunbar added a third RBI on the day, as a sacrifice fly to left field brought Sabrina Maicke across the plate for the Eagles eighth run of the day.
- The ninth Edgewood College run came in the fourth inning, as Grace Delleman scored on a fielding error by the second baseman.
- The Eagles pitching was quite efficient as well, as Coppens recorded three strikeouts in three innings pitched and Emily Bloomfield added another strike out in two innings of work.
GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS 1, EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 0
- The Eagles struggled to figure out the Gusties pitcher Ashley Neuenfeldt who went the distance and only gave up one hit to Delleman in the fourth inning.
- Coppens continued to throw well, only giving up one walk to the Gusties and recording one strikeout in the defensive battle.
- The contest remained scoreless through four innings, until a single to right field from Sydney Swenson scored the pitcher Neuenfeldt.
- In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Gusties looked like they might score again with runners on second and third, but solid defense from the Eagles infield held Gustavus Adolphus to just one run overall.

- Edgewood College will play two tomorrow, the first at 11:00 a.m. MST against UW-La Crosse. The Eagles will then take on Huntington University at 1:30 p.m. MST. Â
