FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Edgewood College Baseball fell in non-conference play against Johns Hopkins University Sunday morning in Florida, 15-1. The combination of 12 walks from the Eagles staff and 10 hits from the Blue Jays made it a difficult day for Edgewood College.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Jays wasted little time in building a lead Sunday, plating six runs in the first inning. The Eagles issued six walks in the opening frame and hit one batter, as Johns Hopkins needed just two hits in the six-run frame.
- The lone Edgewood College run came in the bottom of the first as leadoff batter
Bryan Sternig was hit by a pitch and proceeded to steal second base. With one out in the frame,
Ryan Fields delivered a run-scoring single.
- Johns Hopkins would go on to add a run in the fourth, three in the fifth, one in the sixth, and four more in the eighth en route to the 15-1 win.
-
Joseph Kalafut led the Eagles with two hits, including a double.
Ezra Smith ended up as the pitcher of the record for Edgewood College. Smith settled in nicely after the first inning and ended up throwing four innings.
Richie Coughlin and
Kyle Semrad combined for the final five innings of work for the Eagles.
- Matthew Dillard, one of five Blue Jays used in the game, picked up the win by throwing the fourth through sixth frames. He allowed just one batter to reach (via walk) and punched out three.
UP NEXT
