MADISON, Wis. – Five players scored in double figures, led by 21 from
Jake Negus, as the Edgewood College Men's Basketball team stopped a two-game slide with an 88-80 win over Dominican Monday evening. The Eagles shot 52.5 percent from the floor in the win and knocked down 21-of-29 from the free throw line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College never trailed in the 88-80 victory The Eagles scored the first five points of the game, including a 3-point make from
McClain Steffens on the their first possession. Negus scored seven of the first 14 points for the Eagles in helping them build a 14-4 lead over the first 4:10 of play. Dominican would get as close as two points over the remainder of the first half, but Edgewood College closed strong and led by eight at the break.
- The Eagles (8-12, 8-7 NACC) lead hovered around 6-10 points for most of the second half before a late run put them up 80-65 with 4:18 to play. The Stars (3-17, 3-12 NACC) cut the lead to six (84-78) with 1:09 to play after a 3-point make from Jackson Smith. Edgewood College would make four free throws down the stretch to secure the eight-point victory.
- The two teams ended up combining for 51 free throw attempts on Monday night with the Eagles making 72.4 percent (21-of-29). The Stars countered with a 16-for-22 performance (72.7 percent).
- Balance was a key for Edgewood College as five players finished in double figures. Negus led the way with 21, including making 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Steffens added 15 points,
Avery Lyons produced 13 off the bench and
Ben Seefeld and
Emil Radisevic each chipped in 12. Radisevic also led all players with nine rebounds.
- Overall, the Eagles got all 88 points from seven players as
Sy Staver added eight and
Tyler Lemke chipped in with seven. Staver dished out four assists for the Eagles.
- Edgewood College did a lot of its damage in the paint on Monday, scoring 44 points compared to 32 for Dominican.
THE OPPOSITION
- Marcus Watson and Connor Dartt led the Stars with 24 and 20 points, respectively. Dartt also pulled down seven rebounds for Dominican.
