Eagles roll past Cougars to remain undefeated in home opener

MADISON, Wis. – In a fast-paced home opener the Edgewood College Women's Basketball team earned their seventh straight victory 78-49 over Concordia University Chicago. McKenna Reichling and Emma Klein did not disappoint in their first match at the Todd Wehr Edgedome as both freshmen scored in double-figures, leading the Eagles to a 7-0, 2-0 NACC record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (7-0, 2-0 NACC) and Concordia Chicago (1-4, 1-2 NACC) traded shots back and forth through the first period, but ultimately the Eagles took a three-point lead into the second period.

- The Eagles shut down the Cougars offense in the second period, only allowing four points and a 9.1 shooting percentage. Edgewood College took advantage, scoring 22 points in the second period off five different Eagles.

- Confidence seemed to only go up after the break, as the Eagles best scoring run of 20 came with 6:15 in the third period.

- The Eagles took their largest lead of the contest with 5:40 on the clock in the fourth period. The 41-point lead came off seven straight points, highlighted by a three-pointer from Sydney Ignoffo.  

- Reichling and Klein lead the Eagles offense with 14 and 12 points respectively. Overall 12 Eagles scored on the afternoon, with 37 points coming off the bench. 

- The Eagles spread the ball well against the Cougars, collecting 20 assists to just eight from Concordia Chicago.

- In her first home contest Bria Lemirande collected a team-high and career-best 11 rebounds and added eight points on the afternoon.

- On the afternoon Edgewood College shot 40.5 percent from the floor and 70 percent from the charity stripe.

THE OPPOSITION
- Charisma Robinson led the Cougars offense with 10 points, adding a team-best eight rebounds. Bailey Steinkamp managed four steals for Concordia Chicago and nine points. Meghan Long connected on 2-of-3 from beyond the arc for the Cougars, collecting nine total points.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles maintain their best start in program history and undefeated record. In addition, their 2-0 NACC record is the best conference start for the Edgewood College since the 2012-13 season.

- Five Eagles finished with career-bests on the day. Bria Lemirande collected a whopping 11 rebounds as Mia Edwards added eight rebounds of her own. Reichling's 14 points goes down as a career-high. Ignoffo was on fire from beyond the arc, connecting on 2-of-3 good for six points. Parker Fetherston managed a career-best three steals on the afternoon.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will travel to Dominican University on Tuesday and look to remain undefeated. The conference matchup is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in River Forest, Ill.
