Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Eagles hold off Ripon to keep unbeaten record intact

RIPON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Women's Basketball team was already off to its best start in program history before it visited Ripon College for a non-conference matchup Tuesday night. The Eagles continued that impressive start against the Red Hawks, holding on for a 52-51 win, moving the team to 6-0 and giving them a win over a 2019 NCAA Tournament team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles had to hold on as they held a 41-30 lead after three quarters, only to see Ripon cut into that in the fourth. Ripon had the last chance on Tuesday as well, getting the ball with seven seconds remaining with the score at 52-51. The Eagles defense stood strong, not even allowing the Red Hawks to get a shot off on the final trip.

- Ripon got back into the game on a six-point trip late in the game. With 1:23 left, Lexi Walter made a free throw for the Eagles to give them a 51-45 advantage. On Ripon's next trip, three fouls, and two Red Hawk offensive rebounds led to six points and a 51-51 with 56 seconds left to play.

- Alyssa Lemirande, who tied Walter with a team-best 11 points on Tuesday, did what she does best on the next trip and got to the rim, forcing a foul and putting her at the line. Lemirande made one-of-two in what would end up as the game-winning free throw.

- The third quarter played a big part in the Eagles victory as they outscored Ripon, 14-2 over those 10 minutes. The Eagles trailed by one at the break, but used the big third quarter to hold an 11-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes.

- Diamond Pikulyk added 10 points for the Eagles to join Walter and Lemirande in double figures. Pikulyk went to work in the first half, scoring all 10 of her points on 5-of-6 shooting before the break.

- Bria Lemirande and Walter led the Eagles with seven rebounds each, while Bria Lemirande added four assists as well. The Eagles finished the game with 10 assists and 36 rebounds.

THE OPPOSITION
- The Red Hawks were led by Alyassa Burgess. Burgess posted a double-double with game-highs in both points (14) and rebounds (10).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles are now 6-0 for the first time in program history. Edgewood College has accomplished this feat without playing on its home court yet this season.

- The win was also one over a 2019 NCAA Tournament Team. Ripon won the Midwest Conference Tournament last season.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will bring their perfect record into the 2019-20 home opener set for Sunday afternoon. Edgewood College will welcome Concordia Chicago to the Todd Wehr Edgedome with the opening tip set for 1 p.m. The game will be the first of a women's/men's doubleheader with the men slated for a 3:15 start.
