PLYMOUTH, Wis. - The Edgewood College Women's Basketball team wanted to put together a strong showing in its 2019-20 NACC opener against Lakeland University Saturday afternoon. The Eagles did just that, defeating the Muskies 70-52, earning their first NACC win of the season, and remaining undefeated (5-0) for the best start in program history.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman Emma Klein was dominant in her first conference contest as the Burlington, Wisconsin native led the team with 22 points and eight rebounds. Parker Fetherston and Diamond Pikulyk each added 11 points off the bench as the Eagles reserves collected 29 points overall.
- Edgewood College (5-0, 1-0 NACC) came out strong on Saturday and led 9-2 early, but Lakeland University (0-5, 0-1 NACC) closed the gap, as the Eagles ended the first period with just a three point lead (12-9).
- The Muskies took their largest lead of the contest with 4:45 on the clock in the second period. The five point lead (24-19) sparked the Eagles offense. Edgewood College went into the half with a nine point lead (34-25) off a 15-1 run.
- The Eagles extended their lead to 12 after the third period that featured 11 points from Emma Klein.
- A 3-pointer from Abby Shane and jumper from Pikulyk with just under a minute left in the fourth period gave the Eagles their largest lead of the contest (18) and solidified the 70-52 victory.
- The Lemirande sisters did a great job sharing the basketball, as Alyssa Lemirande recorded nine assists and Bria Lemirande five assists.
- Edgewood College shot 42 percent from the field and 44 percent from beyond the arc. From the charity stripe the Eagles connected on 12-of-19.
THE OPPOSITION
- Megan Will finished the game with 16 points and five rebounds. Brianna Jones led the Muskies in boards with seven. Kacey Gardner collected five steals on the afternoon.
- The Eagles held Lakeland College to 29 percent shooting and 24 percent from 3-point range.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College is 5-0 for the first time in program history. For the second year in a row the Eagles begin conference play with a 1-0 record.
- Klein's 22 points ties her career-best set just two weeks ago against North Central University. The freshman also registered a career-best eight rebounds.
- Mia Edwards recorded a career-high seven points and six rebounds on the afternoon.
- Bria Lemirande's nine rebounds goes down as a career-best.

- Edgewood College will take on Ripon College on Tuesday. The non-conference matchup is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. in Ripon, Wis.
