Eagles edged by Pointers in non-conference Affair

MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Men's Basketball team welcomed another strong non-conference opponent to the Todd Wehr Edgedome Saturday in playing host to UW-Stevens Point. The Eagles battled the Pointers to the end, which included holding a seven-point lead with 6:49 to play, but the Pointers would ultimately prevail, 76-71.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles (0-2) had five players finish in double figures Saturday, showcasing a balanced attack. Ben Seefeld led the way with 15 points, while Jake Negus added 14. Jake Graf (11), Eli Hartjes (10), and Jacob Miller (10) all scored in double figures as well, each of those three reaching or tying a new a career high.

- The Eagles trailed 54-53 with 9:28 left in the game before ripping off an 8-0 run to build its largest lead of the day (eight points). Miller sparked the run with six points, converting an and one to start the 8-0 stretch and finishing off the run with a 3-point basket with 6:49 left to play.

- The Pointers (2-0) responded with an 8-1 run to tie the game at 62-62. The Eagles would not hold a lead the rest of the way. With 14 seconds remaining, the Eagles trailed 74-71 with the ball, but the Pointers defense blocked a 3-point attempt and secured the defensive rebound to close out the contest.

- The Eagles shot 42.6 percent from the floor (23-for-54), which included a 46.2 percent (12-for-26) performance in the second half. Edgewood College also shot it from deep much better than in Tuesday's opener, hitting 6-of-15 shots (40 percent) from 3-point range on Saturday.

- Negus added seven assists in addition to his 14 points as Edgewood College assisted on 14 of 23 makes. Miller led Edgewood College with six rebounds as the Pointers ultimately won the rebounding battle, 36-30.

THE OPPOSITION
- The Pointers were led by Ethan Bublitz's 17 points and three assists. Four Pointers ended the game in double figures with Matt Koerner (15), Garrett Nelson (14), and Zach Mootz (12) joining Bublitz.

- UWSP held a 28-21 edge in bench scoring with both Nelson and Mootz leading that charge.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will play their first regular season road contest of the season Tuesday night when they visit No. 2 and defending national champion UW-Oshkosh. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside the Kolf Sports Center in Oshkosh.
