MADISON, Wis. – In a battle between the remaining unbeaten schools in the NACC, the Edgewood College Women's Tennis team came out on top, defeating Concordia Wisconsin 6-3 on Saturday morning. The Eagles handed the Falcons their first conference loss of the season, while improving to 7-0 in the NACC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles competed well in doubles play but were only able to snag one match from the Falcons. Alyssa Carew and Kai Heineman rolled to a quick and dominant 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
- Edgewood College battled back in singles play, taking five of six matches. Four of the Eagles singles wins came in straight sets.
- Kai Heineman at No. 3 singles took care of Elizabeth Johnson in an impressive 6-0, 6-2 victory.
- At No. 4 singles Ally Verbauwhede rolled past Antonina Sanna with a 6-2, 6-2 victory to remain undefeated (6-0) in NACC play.
- Alicia Picard improved to 7-0 in NACC singles play with a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the No. 5 singles slot
- Lydia Dean also remains undefeated in NACC singles play (6-0) with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Rebekah Spiegelhoff.
- At No. 1 singles Sydney Verbauwhede won a close tie breaker against Ricki Budewitz 7-5, 7-6, 7-4.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
- Four Eagles remain undefeated in NACC singles play, with just two matches remaining on the season schedule.
- The Eagles have won the past three meetings with Concordia Wisconsin, including a 5-1 win in the NACC Tournament Final last May.

- The Eagles will finish the fall season on the road against Concordia Chicago and Dominican University next Saturday. Action is scheduled to take place at 10:00 a.m. against the Stars and 2:00 p.m. against the Cougars in River Forest, Ill. Implications for next Saturday are huge, as two wins will guarantee the Eagles a second straight NACC Regular Season Championship.
