RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Edgewood College Women's Tennis team captured its second straight NACC Regular Season Championship after a pair of 9-0 wins on Saturday. The Eagles took down Concordia University Chicago and Dominican University in similar fashion to their 2018-19 regular season finale, winning both by 9-0 scores. The wins helped Edgewood College finish the NACC Regular Season with a perfect record for the second straight year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood College (12-2, 9-0 NACC) came away with an easy 9-0 victory over Concordia Chicago on Saturday morning. The Eagles dominated in doubles play, as the pairings of Sydney Verbauwhede and Ally Verbauwhede (No. 1), Kai Heineman and Alyssa Carew (No. 2), and Alicia Picard and Kinsey Kessel (No. 3) each earned quick 8-0 victories.
- In singles play the Eagles continued to roll past the Cougars, as Sydney Verbauwhede (No. 1), Heineman (No. 2), Ally Verbauwhede (No. 3), and Picard (No. 4) earned perfect 6-0, 6-0 scores. Alyssa Carew (No. 5) took care of business with a 6-1, 6-0 victory, while Kinsey Kessel rounded out the Eagles lineup with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 6 slot.
- The Eagles secured the NACC title in their second match of the day, defeating Dominican University 9-0.
- The Eagles swept doubles play against the Stars as well.  At No. 1 doubles the Verbauwhede sisters rolled to an 8-0 victory, while Picard and Kessel did the same at No. 3 doubles. The duo of Carew and Heineman won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles.Â
- Against the Stars the Eagles won all six singles matches with ease, only giving up one game in total. Sydney Verbauwhede (No. 1), Carew (No. 2), Ally Verbauwhede (No. 4), Picard (No. 5), and Kessel (No. 6) each swept their opponents, while Heineman (No. 3) won her singles match 6-1, 6-0.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The NACC Regular Season Championship is the seventh outright title for the Eagles and the ninth overall, both league highs. Edgewood College has won outright championships in the fall of 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018, and now 2019. They also won shares in 2010 and 2011.
- Four Eagles (Lydia Dean, Kessel, Picard, and Ally Verbauwhede) finish the fall season undefeated in NACC singles play.
