LISLE, Ill. - In the battle of the Eagles, the Edgewood College Women's Soccer team came away with the win in thrilling double overtime fashion. With just under six minutes remaining in double overtime, Anja Von Kloppp netted the game winning goal to give Edgewood College their first NACC win of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the match tied at one, Von Klopp was in the right place at the right time. The Edgewood College (3-10-1, 1-5 NACC) junior swept the ball from a Benedictine defender and sent it whizzing into the right corner of the net to give Edgewood College the double overtime victory.
- Benedictine University (3-6-2, 2-2-1 NACC) took the early lead as Stephanie Nichols scored in the 58th minute of the contest, assisted by Holly Ward.
- The Edgewood College offense was determined to respond quickly. So, with just over 15 minutes remaining in the second period Siobhan Gallagher sent a free kick soaring over the heads of the Benedictine defenders, finding Shannon Kaufmann, who sent the ball soaring into the bottom left corner of the goal, tying things up at one a piece.
- In the contest, Benedictine University outshot Edgewood College 26-9. Grace Wildeboer tallied an impressive 16 saves, two of which kept Edgewood College in the contest in the first overtime period.
- Eve Meintz led the Benedictine offense with seven shots, five on goal, while Cassidy Henson recorded two saves in the contest.
