EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Edgewood College Women's Tennis team played its first matches of the spring season with two non-conference tilts in Eau Claire on Saturday. The Eagles opened the day with a win over St. Norbert before falling to UW-Eau Claire in the second match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles (13-3) started the day with a 6-3 win over St. Norbert and opened that match with two wins over three doubles matches. The No. 1 duo of
Alyssa Carew and
Kai Heineman gained an 8-7 win, posting a 7-2 victory in the tiebreaker to secure the win.
- The No. 2 pairing of
Alicia Picard and
Sydney Verbauwhede rolled to an 8-2 victory in their match, putting the Eagles up 2-1 heading into singles play.
- In singles play, Edgewood College gained wins in four of six matches to gain the non-conference win, its second of the season over St. Norbert. The Eagles also defeated the Green Knights during the fall season, a 7-2 win on August 30.
- Verbauwhede, Carew, Heineman, and Picard all moved to 2-0 against the Green Knights with wins in singles play. Verbauwhede got it done at No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 6-2.
- Carew needed a tiebreaking set to gain her win, posting a 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 victory. The win was the 100th of Carew's career as she became the eight Eagles Women's Tennis player to reach the century mark. Picard also joined that club earlier this season.
- Heineman had little trouble with her 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles and Picard also rolled to a 6-0, 6-3 victory.
- UW-Eau Claire posted a 9-0 win over the Eagles. The Blugolds also defeated St. Norbert earlier in the day by the same score.

- Edgewood College will continue a busy weekend tomorrow with another non-conference road match. The Eagles will play Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa at 1 p.m. The Eagles and Rams men's teams will play at 10 a.m.
