Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Eagles stifled by Raiders in road NACC setback

MILWAUKEE - The Edgewood College Women's Basketball team fell behind in the opening half against a strong MSOE defense, resulting in a 55-41 setback in NACC road play Saturday. The loss was the third straight for the Eagles, whose overall record fell to 6-6 in the process.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles (6-6, 3-4 NACC) trailed 16-11 after one quarter of play before MSOE pulled away in the second, outscoring Edgewood College 20-7 over the next 10 minutes. The Eagles shot just 20 percent (7-for-35) in the opening half and trailed 36-18 at the break.

- Abby Shane scored seven of her team-leading 12 points in the first half. Lexi Walter added all seven of her points in the opening half as the two combined for 14 of the team's 18 points in the opening 20 minutes.

- The Eagles played better after the break, outscoring MSOE in both the third and fourth quarters. Despite the second half success, Edgewood College never cut the Raiders (7-5, 5-3 NACC) lead to single digits after halftime.

- Shane scored 12 points, while Walter and Alyssa Lemirande each added seven. Walter also pulled down eight rebounds and blocked three shots. Shane dished out a team-best four assists as well.

THE OPPOSITION
- Kayla Barreto scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds in guiding MSOE to the NACC win. Jamie Spanbauer added 15 for the Raiders.

- The Raiders used a 46-39 edge on the boards, 17 of those rebounds coming from Samantha Brooker.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The second quarter has been a difficult one for the Eagles during the recent three-game skid. The Eagles have been outscored 61-21 over the past three second quarters, including the 20-7 advantage for the Raiders Saturday.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will host a pair of NACC games during this upcoming week, beginning with a Tuesday showdown against Alverno College. Opening tip from the Todd Wehr Edgedome is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday night.
