Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Eagles surge past Spartans behind career night from Carpenter

MADISON, Wis. - Behind Kelly Carpenter's 31 points and eight rebounds, the Edgewood College women's basketball team routed Aurora University, 78-62, in a crucial NACC match-up. The Eagles improved to 8-6, 5-4 NACC on the season as double-digit shooting performances from Abby Shane and Alyssa Lemirande complimented Carpenter's career-high performance.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles held the Spartans, the number one scoring team in the NACC, to 33.8 percent (22-for-65) shooting in the game. Aurora University (6-7, 6-3 NACC) was held to just 11.1 percent in the second period, as the Eagles jumped to a 39-24 lead at the half behind a 19-point second period.

- The Eagles and Spartans went back-and-forth in the opening period until Edgewood College finally broke away in the final three minutes off eight straight points in the paint from Kelly Carpenter.

- At the half, the score sat at 39-24, as the Eagles first half was the most dominant shooting performance of the 2018-19 season.

- The Spartans came out of the locker room on a 10-0 run, but the Eagles bounced back quickly behind the scoring trio of Lemirande, Shane, and Carpenter.

- Edgewood College finished the contest with a 48-35 advantage in the boards as Allison Gordon led the team with 11. Carpenter added eight rebounds off the bench and Lexi Walter wasn't far behind with seven of her own.

- Brooke Lonigro distributed the ball well for the Eagles, finishing the contest with a team-best seven assists.

- The Eagles were dominant from in the paint and outside the arc, outscoring the Spartans 50-16 in the lane. Additionally, Abby Shane finished the contest shooting the long ball at 50 percent (6-for-12). Between Carpenters dominant short game and Shane's long game the Eagles shooting was unstoppable.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Carpenter's career-high shooting performance lands her in the Edgewood College history books. The Villa Park, Ill. native now sits in a four-way tie for ninth place with most points scored in a game, and fourth place for field goals made in a game. If that wasn't enough, Carpenter is the first Eagle to score more than 30 points in a contest since two-time All-American Megan Scheele scored 38 points against Concordia Wisconsin on February 26, 2009.

THE OPPOSITION
- Aurora University was paced by Julie Galauner who finished with a team-best 21 points, five of which came from outside the arc. Meija Rabi finished with 13 points and Bailie Edwards piled on 10 points and four assists in the contest. Alyssa Brems was successful in the boards for the Spartans, finishing with 12 on the night.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will finish up their busy week with another NACC matchup on Saturday. Edgewood College will head on the road to take on Benedictine University at 2:00 p.m.
