CHICAGO, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's tennis team extended their winning streak to six matches and stay unbeaten in the NACC with a 6-3 win over Illinois Tech and a shutout over Aurora University on Saturday. The Eagles now hold a 33-3 record in NACC singles play, and 17-1 in NACC doubles play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first win of the day came from Kai Heineman and Alicia Picard at No. 2 doubles, only losing one game in an 8-1 victory over Illinois Tech.
- Marissa Wilson and Jaclyn Swift set the tone for the day with an 8-0 blanking of Illinois Tech's Allyson Trang and Sarah Oshana at No. 3 doubles, and the Eagles rolled on from there.
- In singles play against Illinois Tech, Alicia Picard (No. 3), Heineman (No. 4), and Wilson (No. 5) all won, only dropping five games in total.
- At No. 6 singles Swift won her match (3-6, 6-2, 10-2) dominating the tiebreaker.
- In doubles play against Aurora, Sydney Verbauwhede and Alyssa Carew dominated in the No. 1 slot, winning with a score of 8-1. At No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, partners Picard and Swift, and Brooks and Nau also won with a score of 8-1.
- Against Aurora University, Heineman (No. 3), Lydia Dean (No. 4), Brooks (No. 5), and Abbie Groppe (No. 6) all won in straight sets (6-0, 6-0). Verbauwhede had the closest match of the afternoon, winning 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 singles over the Spartans' Giselle Salazar.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College has now started at least 5-0 in NACC play in six of the last eight seasons.
- Picard played four matches on the day and only lost three games overall.
