Eagles best Sabres in Fond Du Lac

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's tennis team continues to roll through NACC competition, beating Marian University 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon. In a weekday match, the Eagles continue to prove that they can compete with the best, only dropping two close matches to Marian University. The Eagles now own a 7-0 record in the NACC, and are sitting on a seven match winning streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was nearly a clean sweep of the Sabres, but two final tie breakers would make the final score 7-2.
- Through a trio of competitive doubles matches against the Sabres, the Eagles came out on top, 3-0.
- Sydney Verbauwhede and Alyssa Carew came through with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, and Kai Heineman and Alicia Picard stayed undefeated in NACC play with an 8-4 win at the No. 2 spot.
- Marissa Wilson and Jaclyn Swift also remained undefeated in NACC play, rolling past Kyrsten Bruce and Erica Counter with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
- The Eagles gave up two singles wins to the Sabres, but held on to win the match.
- Carew notched her fourth NACC win, with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Emma Lewandowski at No. 2 singles.
- Heineman (No. 3), Wilson (No. 4), and Swift (No. 5) all remain undefeated in NACC singles play.
- Lydia Dean dropped a close match at No. 6 singles to Kristin Houle. After remaining undefeated in singles play, Dean's impressive eight match winning streak came to an end.
- For the second year in a row, Marian's Meg Hartzell got the best of Verbauwhede (No. 1). Hartzell narrowly clipped Verbauwhede winning in tie breaking fashion once again, 7-6, 1-6, 10-8.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles now own a record of 20-1 in NACC doubles play and 37-5 in NACC singles play.
- The Eagles are one of two teams to clinch a NACC tournament berth, and sit just behind Concordia Wisconsin in NACC standings.

- The Eagles head to Mequon, Wis. for a matchup against Concordia University Wisconsin this Saturday, October 6 starting at 10:00 a.m.
