MIDDLETON, Wis. – Rain and schedule changes couldn't keep the Edgewood College women's tennis team from sweeping Lakeland University on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles continued to prove that they are a strong team all around, finishing the afternoon with a 35-1 NACC record in both singles and doubles matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Doubles partners Sydney Verbauwhede and Alyssa Carew set the tone early for the Eagles, winning their match at No. 1 doubles 8-2.
- Seniors Jaclyn Swift and Marissa Wilson continued the pattern at No. 2 doubles, finishing out a close match with an 8-3 win.
- At the No. 3 doubles spot Kai Heineman and Lydia Dean displayed seamless work in their debut as a double team, winning 8-0.
- In singles competition the Eagles continued to dominate as Alicia Picard No. 2 and Haley Brooks No. 6 won their matches in straight sets.
- At No. 1 singles Alyssa Carew won the closest match of the afternoon, 6-3, 6-2.
- Jaclyn Swift showed veteran skill at No. 4 singles, finishing strong with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
- Lydia Dean seemed quite comfortable in the No. 5 singles slot, as she eased her way to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Abby Juozapaitis.
- Freshman Kai Heineman continued to dominate after a strong weekend at the Gustie Invite, winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
- In all nine victories, the Eagles only surrendered 15 games to the Muskies, and won all three doubles matches by the combined score of 24-5
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- The Eagles have swept the Muskies four times in the last eight years, and have won the past eight meetings.
