MONTGOMERY, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team was unable to find the back of the net in a 2-0 loss to Aurora University. The Eagles aggressive offense struggled to convert shots into goals, as seven different players took shots on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.
Through the first six minutes of the game neither team recorded a shot, but Aurora (2-4-1, 1-1 NACC) struck first. In the 7th minute of the contest Giselle Torres scored her first goal as a Spartan off an assist from Alexis Abelove. Edgewood College (0-6-1, 0-2 NACC) responded quickly with four shots, but was unable to score. In the first period Cassidy Kloos and Mari Hubanks came closest for the Eagles, each with strong shots on goal.
Edgewood College came into the second half with lots of energy, as Shannon Kaufmann, Carrie Radomsky, Lauren Clark, Mari Hubanks, Mady Warda, and Cassidy Johnson all took shots in the first 28 minutes. The Eagles spent a good part of the second half taking on the Spartan defense.
The Eagles held the Spartans at one until the 76th minute, when Freshman Ariana Hopewell score her first goal as a Spartan. With the Eagles trailing the Spartans 2-0 a defensive battle ensued, as the Eagles held off the final five shots taken by Aurora.
Overall, Edgewood College outshot Aurora 13-9, Hubanks took a team-high four shots, and goalkeeper Grace Wildeboer made three saves in the contest. Wildeboer now totals 54 saves on the season, good for second place in the NACC.
The Eagles take on Concordia Wisconsin on the road this Wednesday, September 26. Edgewood College will kickoff at 4:00 p.m. in Mequon, Wis.
