Eagles drop non-conference bout to Green Knights

MADISON, Wis. – In the Edgewood College women's soccer home opener, an aggressive offensive first half was not enough to hold back St. Norbert College in a 2-1 defeat. Mari Hubanks scored the only Edgewood College goal of the match, while goalkeeper Grace Wildeboer recorded a total of nine saves.

The Edgewood College women's soccer team (0-1-1) offense struggled find a spark in the second half, as only two shots were taken by the Eagles. In the first half of the match, the Eagles offense took control early on, with six shots in the first 25 minutes. Mari Hubanks led the offense with four shots and one goal. In the 10th minute of the game Hubanks made an impressive run at the goal, but was denied by the St. Norbert College (1-1) goalkeeper Ally Magiera. Only fourteen minutes later, Hubanks capitalized on a defensive mistake by the Green Knights. Hubanks easily netted her second goal of the season on an empty net.

At halftime the Eagles and Green Knights were tied up with one a piece. The score would remain tied until the 73rd minute, when Dana Schwab broke the tie for Green Knights. Schwab was in the right place at the right time, as she quickly rebounded a blocked shot off the hands of Eagle goalkeeper Wildeboer and scored the Green Knights second goal of the match.

Grace Wildeboer was instrumental in holding St. Norbert College to just two goals, as she recorded a total of nine saves, six of which came in the second half.

The Eagles play two straight matches on the road starting with Beloit College this Wednesday, September 5 at 4:30 pm.
