RIPON, Wis. – Coming off a thrilling game against the University of Dubuque, the Edgewood College men's soccer team was victorious for the third time this week. Edgewood College came away with an 8-1 win against Ripon College, in a game that featured goals from five different Eagles. History was made by Garrett Lee as he broke the Edgewood College record for career goals. The win goes down as the highest scoring victory for Edgewood College since 2008.
Scoring began for Edgewood College (5-2) in the 8th minute, as Sean Surtees took advantage of a penalty kick and netted his fifth goal of the season. 21 minutes later, Garrett Lee would score the second Eagle goal on another penalty kick. Before the first half was over Ripon College (2-4) would score, taking advantage of good field position after a free kick. In the 40th minute Max Mindiola squeezed the ball past the Eagle defense, making the score 2-1 going into halftime.
The Eagles turned on the jets in the second half, as both Garrett Lee and Mamadou Jawo would score back to back goals. Zander Hartberg struck first in the second half, as he scored from the top of the box in the in the 55th minute. Three minutes later Garrett Lee would score his second goal of the game off a pass from Nicholas Bilodeau.The Eagles were up 5-1 when senior Garrett Lee scored his third goal of the game, and his 38th career goal. With the sixth goal of the match, Lee broke the 23-year old career goals record. Previous record holder Jeff Ornes scored 37 career goals between 1992 and 1995.
The Eagles continued to dominate offensively, as Scott Biancofiori joined in with a goal of his own. Biancofiori headed the ball into the Red Hawk net off an assist from Zander Hartberg in the 70th minute. Excitement continued up until the last few minutes of the game, as Mamadou Jawo scored his second goal of the season off an assist from Barrow Bubacarr. With 17 seconds left in the game Jawo scored the Eagles eighth goal, striking the ball into the net off a pass from Denilson Cruz-Gonzalez.
Overall, the Eagles outshot the Red Hawks 24-4. Both Carson Hughes and Brandyn Storhoff spent time in goal for the Eagles, each recording one save. In total, eight Eagle players contributed to the offensive contest with either a goal or assist.
Edgewood College will turn towards NACC action on Wednesday, as they face MSOE at Reddan Soccer Park. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
