Eagles dominate Spartans, clinch 7th straight trip to NACC semifinals

MADISON, Wis. – The No. 3 seeded Edgewood College men's tennis team made quick work out of No. 6 seed Aurora with a dominant 5-1 win in the first round of the NACC tournament on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-After playing with only five guys and sneaking past Aurora, 5-4, a couple weeks ago, the full-strength Eagles rolled past the Spartans and clinched their seventh straight NACC semifinals berth
-Evan Stone, who was gone for the first matchup, and Sabastion Seeger simultaneously clinched the decisive fourth and fifth matches by each winning in straight sets during singles play
-Stone won his ninth straight singles match and remains undefeated against conference opponents this season
-Marius Dornhagen Schradermeier swept his opponent at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0, as the Eagles breezed through singles play
-The match started out competitive, but the Eagles escaped the doubles portion with a 2-1 lead
-Stone and Dornhagen won at the No. 1 slot, 8-4, and Sabastion Seeger and Jackson Venske snuck by at No. 2 doubles, 8-6
-The longest match of the day went to Aurora as the Spartan duo won their only match, 9-7, at No. 3 doubles
-The Eagles, who face #2 MSOE for the second time after losing to them 5-4 earlier this season, have to beat the Raiders for a berth in the NACC Championship game and a chance at their third NACC tournament title in their last four years

FOR THE OPPONENTS
-Aurora is eliminated in the first round for the fourth time in the last five seasons and finishes the season with a 5-11 record

NEXT UP
The No. 3 seeded Eagles advance to play No. 2 MSOE in the NACC Semifinals at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison this Sunday. The winner will face the other semifinal winner between No. 4 Dominican and No. 1 Concordia Wisconsin later on Sunday afternoon.
