FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Edgewood College baseball team put every runner they needed to win the game on the bases, but couldn't come up with the key hits in a 7-1 loss to NCAA Division II program St. Michael's College. The Eagles left 16 runners on base in what was a 3-1 game going into the ninth inning.

Edgewood College (2-3) starting pitcher Connor Schatzberg gave a strong performance in his first collegiate start. The freshman allowed three runs on six hits over seven innings, while striking out seven batters. He departed trailing 3-1 thanks to Nik Visone's RBI single in the fifth which scored Bryan Sternig.

The Eagles had their chances to take the lead, but left the bases loaded in the fifth, eighth and ninth innings. St. Michael's broke the game open with four runs in the top of the ninth inning, to win comfortably.

Ryan Fields went two-for-two with a walk and a sacrifice to lead the Eagles offense. Alex Fowler also had two hits including a leadoff double in the second inning.

Edgewood College will return to action on Thursday with a morning game against the Coast Guard Academy. First pitch will be at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time, and CGA will provide live stats at EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com/coverage.
