MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin Lutheran College jumped out to a large first quarter lead, as the Edgewood College women's basketball team fell to the 25th-ranked Warriors 66-39 on Saturday at the Edgedome. The Eagles received a strong performance from Diamond Pikulyk who scored 15 of her game-high 18 points in the second half.
Wisconsin Lutheran College (19-2, 15-1 NACC) got their first NACC win since suffering a loss at Lakeland on Tuesday, by bolting out to a 22-2 first quarter lead. Edgewood College regained their footing in the second period, with Allison Gordon scoring back-to-back baskets, but the Eagles still trailed 39-12 at halftime.
The second half proved to be much better for Edgewood College (9-12, 7-9 NACC). The Eagles outscored the Warriors 15-14 in the third period, on the strength of three-point plays by Pikulyk and Abigail Sutter. Pikulyk was a standout in the fourth quarter, scoring eight points, while Delaney Wilhelm converted a three-point play.
Pikulyk shot 8-for-15 from the field and shared team-high rebounds with Wilhelm with eight boards. Gordon scored six points, had seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Edgewood College shot just 27.9 percent from the field, and did not hit a three-pointer in a game for the first time this season.
Wisconsin Lutheran was led by Kelly Tramburg who scored 11 of her 15 points in the first half. Caitlin Knueppel made three three-pointers to finish with 13 points. The Eagles held the Warriors leading scorer Jen Dowden to 1-for-7 shooting and nine points on the night. The Warriors were strong at the free throw line hitting 82.6 percent (19-for-23).
Edgewood College will take to the road next week for their final two away games of the regular season. The Eagles meet Dominican University on Wednesday, before a trip to Marian University on Saturday.
