RACINE, Wis. – Even playing short-handed, the Edgewood College men's tennis team avoided being shutout by a pair of the region's top opponents on Saturday at the Racine Tennis Club. The Eagles fell 8-1 to both Lake Forest College and Carthage College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With only five players, the Eagles suffered losses by default at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. Jackson Venske and Sabastion Seeger put up a strong showing for the Eagles at No. 2 doubles, falling 8-5 to Lake Forest's Nick Zazove and Scott Drier.
- Evan Stone pulled out the Eagles' lone win against the Foresters, rallying back after losing the first set 1-6. Stone and Zazove went to a 10-point match tiebreaker, before Stone claimed an exciting 1-6, 7-5, 11-9 victory.
- In the second match Stone and Marius Dornhagen Schradermeier stayed close at No. 1 doubles before losing to Carthage's John Nykyforuk and Lukasz Jaworski 8-6.
- Jackson Venske picked up the victory for the Eagles at No. 4 doubles, defeating Austin Sternbach in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will take a 13-day break from competition before hosting their first home match of the 2017-18 season. The Eagles will welcome St. Mary's University (Minn.) to the Cherokee Country Club on Friday, February 23 for a 6:00 p.m. match.
