Eagles comeback not enough after strong second period from Warriors

MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin Lutheran College jumped out to a large second period lead, as the Edgewood College women's basketball team fell to the Warriors 52-46 on Saturday in the Todd Wehr Edgedome. The Eagles received strong performances from Abby Shane with a team high 14 points and five rebounds from Allison Gordon and Maryn Ferron.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Edgewood College led 12-9 after the opening quarter but the second quarter is where things slowed down. The Eagles were held to only four points in the quarter, being outscored 21-4, which led to a 30-16 halftime deficit. Edgewood College committed eight turnovers compared to just three turnovers for Wisconsin Lutheran.

- At the half Abby Shane led the charge for the Eagles with six points while Delaney Wilhelm owned three rebounds.

- The Eagles bounced back in the third period, outshooting the Warriors 15-11. Despite a strong effort, 14 rebounds from Wisconsin Lutheran only allowed the Eagles to cut five points off the lead.

- With just under two minutes remaining in the contest a 3ptr. from Jennifer Freeman put the Eagles within seven points of the lead. An additional free-throw from Lexi Walter put the Eagles within six, the closest they had been to the Warrior lead since the first period.

- Edgewood College committed 20 turnovers in the defensive battle compared to 16 for Wisconsin Lutheran. The Eagles strong defense held the Warriors to a 31.6 shooting percentage. Additionally, the Eagles came away shooting 45.5 percent from outside the arc compared to just 13.6 percent from the Warriors.
- Shane paced the Eagles offense with 14 points and three assists, while Gordon and Ferron dominated the boards with five each. Gordon also came away with nine points.

THE OPPOSITION

- Wisconsin Lutheran was led by Maddy Elrod who finished the contest with an 18 point 11 rebound double-double. Jen Dowden came away in double digits with 13 points, two assists, and two steals.

- Defensively Lexi Reinke led the Warriors with 10 rebounds, two blocks, and a team high 5 steals.

UP NEXT
- The Eagles will take on North Central University on Thursday at the Todd Wehr Edgedome. The non-conference matchup is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
