RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Edgewood College women's basketball team put together their fourth win of the season, to improve to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the NACC for the first time since the 2012-13 season. The Eagles 58-40 win over Concordia Chicago came behind strong scoring efforts from Diamond Pikulyk and Abby Shane.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore Diamond Pikulyk was dominant on Saturday afternoon, leading the Eagles off the bench with 11 points, five rebounds, and one block. Abby Shane added 10 points and going 2-6 from outside the 3-point range.
- Off the bench the Eagles outscored the Cougars 26-17, and were dominant in the paint scoring 34 of their 58 points from short range.
- The Eagles came out strong and went into the second period with a seven point lead, off of a first period that saw 50% shooting. Despite leading Concordia Chicago by nine at halftime, Edgewood College continued to dominate with their best shooting percentage (56.3%) of the night coming in the fourth period.
- Edgewood College would end the contest on a 15-8 roll, closing out their second NACC win the same way it started.
- An impressive nine different players put points up on the board for the Eagles, while Pikulyk and Shane led the charge in double figures. Maryn Ferron and Lexi Walter added eight points each.
- The Eagles continued to spread the ball across the floor well, as Brooke Lonigro came away with seven assists. Additionally, Delaney Wilhem and Walter both pulled down 10 rebounds for the Eagles, a career-high number for Walter.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood College is 2-0 in NACC play for the first time since the 2012-13 season. The Eagles are 4-0 overall for the first time since at least the 2001-02Â season.
- Coming into the contest, sophomore Lonigro sat in a three-way tie for 18th place in the NCAA with 6.0 assists per game. With the addition of her seven assists against the Cougars, Lonigro now sits in a three-way tie for 16th place with 6.2 assists per game.Â
THE OPPOSITION
- Jada Dixon finished with 11 points and five rebounds for the Cougars while Michaela Thornton came away with three assists, and Crystal Corr added seven rebounds.
UP NEXT
- Edgewood College will return home to take on Dominican University on Tuesday. The NACC matchup is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Todd Wehr Edgedome.
