MADISON, Wis. – A night under the lights of Breese Stevens Field was just what the Edgewood College women's soccer team needed to notch their first win of the season. After struggling to score in their previous four matches, the Eagles exploded for three goals in a 3-1 victory over Lakeland University. Three different Eagles scored in the game, including Carrie Radomsky who scored her first goal of the season, and Aubrey Tarmann who scored her first career collegiate goal.
Tarmann got the Eagles off to a fast start, with a goal in the fourth minute. Tarmann netted her first goal as an Eagle off a cross from Mari Hubanks. In the 33rd minute, it was Radomsky's turn to write her name in the book. Hubanks perfectly placed the ball at the feet of Radomsky off the corner kick, as the sophomore found the back of the net on her first touch. It was Radomsky's first goal of the season, and Hubank's second assists of the contest.
Edgewood College (1-8-1, 1-4 NACC) carried a 2-0 lead into halftime, after dominating possession during the first half. Just seven minutes into the second half Jenna Borts scored off a free kick from 30 yards out. The Lakeland University (4-8-1, 0-5 NACC) sophomore would score the only goal for the Muskies in the contest. The Eagles were not content leaving the contest without scoring once more. After 12 Edgewood College shots in the second half, Mari Hubanks finally scored in the 88th minute of the game. Hubanks netted her fourth goal of the season in almost identical fashion to Borts. The senior found the back of the net off a free kick from 30 yards out.
For the Eagles, it was the most goals scored in a game all season. Additionally, the Eagles offense took a season-high 36 shots in the contest. Tarmann bested her recent season-high six shots against Benedictine, taking a total of 12 shots in the contest. Grace Wildeboer made two saves in the contest, a testament to the strong Eagle defense that was able to keep the ball on the other half of the pitch for most of the game. Edgewood College outshot Lakeland University 36-7 in the contest.
Edgewood College will head to River Forest, Ill. to take on Concordia University Chicago on Saturday morning. The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match will begin at 10:30 a.m.
