HARTLAND, Wis. – In a battle between the two top teams in the NACC, Edgewood College came out triumphant in a 6-3 victory over Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles are the first NACC team to beat the Falcons in 36 matches straight conference matches.The Eagles extended their winning streak to seven matches and stay unbeaten in the NACC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first win of the day came from Marissa Wilson and Jaclyn Swift with an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.
- Concordia Wisconsin would take two close matches against Sydney Verbauwhede and Alyssa Carew at No. 1 doubles (8-6), and Alicia Picard and Kai Heineman (9-8, 7-2) at No. 2 doubles. Picard and Heineman dropped a nail biter against Bailey Kelly and Ricki Budewitz in a tie breaking fashion.
- The Eagles win came through in singles play, as they dominated, only dropping one match on the afternoon.
- Alyssa Carew took care of things in the No. 2 singles slot with a 6-2, 6-3 win.
- Marissa Wilson at No. 5 singles took care of Elizabeth Johnson in a 6-3, 6-0 victory to remain undefeated (4-0) in NACC play.
- At No. 6 singles Jaclyn Swift made an impressive comeback to win 6-1, 7-5 against CUW's Rebekah Spiegelhoff.
- At No. 1 singles Sydney Verbauwhede dropped a close tie breaker to Ashley Solberg 6-4, 3-6, 2-6.
- Alicia Picard was victorious against Ricki Budewitz to win a tiebreaker 6-7, 7-5, 10-7, and remain undefeated in NACC play.
- Kai Heineman won the clinching match 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 against Emma Sievers to give the Eagles the win. Heineman also remains undefeated in NACC competition.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The win for the Eagles breaks Concordia Wisconsin's 36-match NACC winning streak.
- Six Eagles remain undefeated in NACC singles competition, with only two teams left on the season schedule.
