Ashley Siegel entered Wednesday's NACC match at Alverno College with one career goal. She tripled that output Wednesday with her first career hat trick leading the Edgewood College Women's Soccer team past the Inferno, 6-3.
The Eagles offense as a whole came alive Wednesday. Edgewood College entered the match with six total goals and matched that number in the league win. Four of the six goals came after halftime, including the final two completing Siegel's hat trick.
Alverno struck first with a goal in the 23rd minute but the Eagles took the lead into the half thanks to a pair of first-half scores.
Lizzy Langer scored with 15 minutes left in the opening half to tie the match at 1-1, and Siegel tallied her first goal in the 40th minute.
Lauren Clark assisted on both scores, while
Alisha Nolden helped on the Langer goal and
Anja Van Klopp picked up an assist on the Siegel goal.
Edgewood College would build its lead to 5-1, scoring the first three goals of the second half, two of those from Siegel in the 49th and 59th minutes. In between those came an
Aubrey Tarmann got in on the scoring act, netting a goal in the 54th minute.
Maddy Solder, Siegel, and Tarmann all recorded helpers during the quick three-goal stretch to begin the second half.
Clark would add a late second-half goal, completing a four-point match for the junior. Alverno added a pair of second-half goals as well for the 6-3 final.
The Eagles controlled possession throughout with a 27-11 advantage in shots. Edgewood College ended up with 18 of those shots on goal, Tarmann leading the way with five.
Grace Wildeboer made four saves for the Eagles in her second win of the season. Her counterpart, Allison Weick, stopped 11 shots.
The Eagles will visit Maranatha Baptist University for a non-conference match Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. The match will be played at the high school field located on Maranatha Baptist's campus.
